Shenzhen City

Shenzhen City, referred to as ""Shen"" or ""Peng City"", is a prefecture-level city, sub-provincial city, national planned city, mega-city, and core urban hub of the GBA. Bordering Hong Kong to the south, it spans a total land area of 1,997.47 square kilometres. Mandarin is the predominant language, complemented by Cantonese and English. By the end of 2025, the resident population reached 18.24 million. As the window of China's reform and opening up, Shenzhen has created the legendary ""Shenzhen Speed"" and earned its reputation as the ""Silicon Valley of China"". The city established four economic pillars: high-tech industries, modern logistics, financial services, and cultural sectors. In 2025, Shenzhen's regional GDP reached RMB 3,873.18 billion, showing an impressive annual growth rate of 5.5%.
